Yoga for a Healthy Spine with Kim Beecher, D.C.

The course will provide knowledge of how yoga can be used to create a healthy spine. It will include an overview of anatomy of the spine and its range of motion within the context of the axial and appendicular skeleton, as well as an emphasis on spinal health challenges ranging from genetic and congenital to postural, injury and disease. With a focus on yoga practice including asana, pranayama and meditation, these spinal health challenges will be addressed.

 Using a balanced holistic approach that is based on the uniqueness of each individual, the discussion will include why and how these practices are therapeutic and how they help maintain health, and result in the healing and strengthening of the spine-body-mind. Ways to work safely, asking appropriate questions, using alignment assistance, modifications and props will be included.  The presentation will include lecture, powerpoint, DVD and experiential basic yoga practice.

Instructor: Kim (Nandi) R. Beecher, D.C. Dr. Beecher is the assistant director of TriYoga International teacher training, a certified TriYoga teacher trainer and a practicing chiropractor in Santa Cruz, California (YA Registry #13856). She has studied with Yogini Kaliji since 1986. Dr. Beecher received her doctor of chiropractic degree in 1989 from Palmer College of Chiropractic-West where she graduated magna cum laude. She taught college-level human anatomy for 10 years. She has a bachelor of science degree with a major in biology from Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts and a master’s degree in education from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. Dr. Beecher teaches Yoga for a Healthy Back, Anatomy and Natural Alignment.
